My Dad Is Suffering From Heart Problems, Please Help Him

my Dad rushed into hospital a couple of weeks ago as he lost his vision for a few hours and felt dizzy, his heart was racing very quick..A week after i had to take him for his routine arthuitus test, his legs were very swollen and he was very breatless, they admitted him straight away, they said he had fluid on the lungs and his heart was reving 200 at the to and 50 revs at the bottom..He was on alot of medication and two days ago his heart started racing fast again. The swelling has gone down in his legs..It IS DIFFICULT FOR ME AS HE LIVES 200 MILES AWAY,So i have to just take his word for it..What is actually going on with his heart,is it life threatening ? Thankyou..Mandy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Sudden loss of vision can occur as a complication of increased Blood Pressure, hence that has to be evaluated ophthalmologically. Other than that, it could be due to sudden interruption in blood supply to the heart or brain, eg, heart attack, stroke, etc. Even decreased/increased blood sugar is a possible cause. Or else it could be as simple as a functional disturbance like giddiness.
