Lump Under Right Side Of Neck, Pressure Feeling In Ear, Mucus In Throat. What Should Be Done?

Hello, I have a lump on the right side of my neck, just under the jawbone and my ear...it is firm and not painful unless I keep pressing on it...then it becomes tender... I have a pressure feeling in that ear, and quite a lot of mucus in my throat... I asked my doctor about it, and he says it is a swollen lymph node... but this has been there about 6 months now and it isn't getting any smaller.. or any better.... I sleep very well at night, but can fall asleep sitting up an hour after rising.... can you tell me what to do?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding lump on right side of your neck just below the angle of jaw for last 6 months.

As you said it is not painful and you feel pain only on pressing it, but you are having mucous in your throat. I am agree with opinion of your doctor as it appears to be an enlarged lymph node. But the important thing is the nature of pathology behind this lymphadenopathy. It may be either the disease of lymph node or a secondary lesion of pathology may be present in the drainage area of this group of lymph node. Because you may have primary lesion in your throat as you are having excess mucous in your throat, so it will be wise step to consult an ENT specialist for examination of throat to rule out any primary lesion in the vicinity.

To confirm it you may go for F.N.A.C. from your enlarge neck lump. This investigation will decide the line of treatment.

Regards.
