Kid, Have Fever, Stiff Neck, Sleepy. Took Motrin. Should I Meet Doctor?

My five yr old woke at 7am with a fever if 102 and complained of a stiff neck. Very sleepy. I gave motrin to see if itd lessen or take away the neck pain. It did. On and off all day her fevers are returning- roughly 3hrs after meds. Her eyes are just now bothering her but neck isnt hurting. Should I bring her to the ER??

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

Your child is having high grade fever which is returning every 3 hours despite giving medicines. She is also having stiff neck and trouble with her eyes which could be photophobia or eye pain. With these symptoms you should go to the ER at the earliest.

These symptoms could be because of a viral infection or something more serious like meningitis. Immediate evaluation and treatment by a paediatrician is needed.

Hope that helps.
Wishing you good luck.

Regards,
Dr.Preeti
