Questions and answers on "Stiff neck"

Hi there , I get light sensitive , odor sensitive , headache and stiffness in lower neck . But what's really weird is at the beginning of these episodes and during the top of my head will sweat excessively. You can email me at YYYY@YYYY
I've had this going on for about 8 years now . On years average I get these about once a week . I've forced myself to work through such episodes but really I should be in bed .

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
Based on your symptoms, the most likely cause in your case is migraine.
Since you have more than two episodes per month, you would benefit from preventive medications such as topiramate, divalproex, beta blockers, etc.
Please consult a neurologist for...

Hello,

I have persistent throbbing headache and lower neck stiffness for almost a week now with nausea that prevents me from doing anything !. I came about suddenly and I have pleghmy cold (nose runs green at start of day). I have gone to ER for a scan, blood test, urine test and spinal tap and all have come back negative (normal). The throbbing pain seems to subside if I lie down or bent the head low between my knees (my head just feels heavy). Pain medication and anti-inflamatory prescribed gives no relief as well as over the counter headache pills. I have no sensitivity to light nor do I have pain coming from behind my eyeballs (which I think is why they do not believe I have migraines). I have noticed I am very tired and with lack of being able to perform normal daily tasks I end up sleeping. I am unable to drive or sit in a moving car (as the nausea kicks in). My cold seems to be clearing up. I am suspecting this all has to do with equilibrium ? (since position seems to be a factor to the degree of neck stiffness and head throbbing ?). What can I take or do to make this stop ??? I will eventually need to go back to work ....

HI
No this not migraine, this could be a upper respiratory tract infection and must be allergic one, with bad sinusitis, and this of course causing neck stiffness, you have taken haphazard steps by doing spinal tapping, now first thing you need to do is take decongestant agent which could liquefy...

I have what I believe is a flu. First, I noticed aching muscles at night, headache. Then, a low grade temperature of 99.9. That was a week ago. Since then, the temperature has gone lower at its high point, and even reached normal a few morings. I missed work, and then went back, thinking it was all gone. Then, today my fever came back, and I feel as badly as I did a week ago. Do you think it could be bacterial instead? Because it's gone on for so long? I mean, do I need to go to urgent care and ask for a test for strep or other bacterial infection (maybe sinus?)? Thank you

I woke up a few days ago with a very stiff, somewhat painful neck. I m a 68 year old male and do have a history of SBE (not that it matters). The neck is particularly stiff (painful) when I rotate up and down and much less so rotating left to right, although, when I do rotate left to right, I can hear light cracking, which I would interpret as a stiff neck related to a strain. Because of my history of SBE, I m a little concerned. I seem to have perhaps a very low grade fever, but have not taken my temperature. Any reason to be concerned?
