Itching, Redness, Clear Liquid Discharge From Big Toe. Taken Cortisone And Zithromax. What Could It Be?

My big toe started itching 6 weeks ago, turned really red and developed into small bumps which leaked clear liquid. It was shiny and hot to the touch. After 2-3 weeks I saw the dr who prescribed an antifungal/cortizone steroid cream which did not help. It became infected and I was prescribed Zithromax which resolved the infection and it stopped itching and then the top layer of skin peeled, but the toe has remained red for another 3 weeks and has the sensation of tingling or poor circulation. Now the itching has returned and I feel like I'm starting from square one. All my bloodwork is perfect and they even sent a sample of the liquid to a lab with negative results. What could it be??

One of the most common causes of bullae/blister is friction, such as the friction that occurs from using a shovel or rubbing against a shoe.If you come into contact with things that irritate your skin, like latex, cosmetics you could develop a condition called contact dermatitis. Contact dermatitis is an allergic reaction that also causes bullae.Thermal burns, previous trauma to your skin might also result in these condition. You should see your doctor if your bulla is causing you pain or restricts your movement at all. Do not try to burst or pop your blister on your own, since this can lead to an infection. If you have problems with your circulation or if you have diabetes, talk to your doctor before trying to treat your bulla at home.Hope this helps.Take care.
