Is Repeating Pap Smear Test Needed After CIN 1 Result In First Test?

Hello, I received the result of my pap smear and it came back as CIN 1 and my Doctor said to repeat the pap smear in 12 months time. Is this correct? I would like to repeat the pap smear in 3 months and then again in 6 months. Also does my partner need to have any tests done and if so what would that involve. I appreciate you taking to time to answer my questions thank you.

Hi!
Welcome to HCM!
CIN 1 is Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion that is LSIL and indicates mild cervical dysplasia,
LSIL usually needs treatment but follow up is recommended, because there is a 12–16% chance of progression to more severe dysplasia.. your doctor has already suggested follow up after 12 months, which is adequate.
HPV Infection must be ruled out as mild dysplasia may be caused by a human papillomavirus infection .So you can get tested for that first. If positive frequent follow up and colposcopy may be required.Take care!
