Does Bleeding After Intercourse Need Another PAP Smear?

I recently got told that I have HPV and the pap smear came back normal. Doctor suggested that I wait for a year to get another pap smear. I am also experiencing bleeding after sex. Sometimes its more than others. Should I go back in for another pap smear??

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Bleeding after intercourse should be investigated.
Common causes of bleeding after intercourse are:
1. Cervical erosion
2. Cervical infection/ inflammation
3. Endometrial infection/ inflammation
4. Polyps- cervical or endometrial
5. Malignancy- endometrial or cervix

A Pap smear is indicated to look for the status of cells in the cervix.
Further work up will be decided after the results of Pap test are obtained.

Thanks and take care
