Is online counselling a good way to treat anxiety ?

I am a lady of 20 yrs. I am in a lot of tension and worry regarding my studies. I have read an article on anxiety and the symptoms given there are very similar to mine. The onset of symptoms was 4 months back when I had rapid heart beat, restlessness , chills etc. It has happened 6-7 times since then. I feel counseling can solve my problem. Please tell me some tips to remain happy and tension free. How do I drive away the tension causing thoughts from my mind?? Can I get counseling through internet for that??

Dear, thanks for query. You are not alone, lots of teenagers in your age are having this kind of issues. The best option is talking to somebody whom you can trust and share your problems,it may your friend or relative.Still if you are not comfortable with this you can visit any psychiatrist first who can solve your problem.Medicines are not required in every case.Try to avoid the areas where you are not comfortable with. When ever you are having problem, try to recollect the achievements that you had in past.Try yoga and meditation they will increase your inner strength. Also try to remain active and do some new creative activity all the time.Bye.

About 2.5 years ago i went through a lot of very difficult changes. my husband and i split up and he filed for divorce in 6 days no reconciliation- no adultry or anything like that. we were together 5 years he lost his business and started to drink. i lost my husband, i lost our home to him and another small home i lost to foreclosure. I changed jobs within the same system i worked for ( which was a stress and a blessing), I suffered with severe arthritic type pain and memory issues for 6 months then 7 months of urticaria, severe hives / welts all day everyday for 7 months then it finally went slowly away, with angio edema. Took several medications including 2 antidepressants and Prednisone. I gained 30 lbs, never have been fat. I am off meds as of 10 months ago. They never figured it out and i had poor coping skills the whole time i was so physically agitated and emotionally, mentally spent . I quit smoking 5 months ago. I find myself crying almost everyday, some days i cry so hard and have such feelings of dispair and loss. I have acquaintances and i am involved in a counseling type class, recovery for hurts and hangups, i go to church saturday and sunday, otherwise i have no friends and my brothers are all alcoholics that hate me because I dont drink and my father left me as the youngest and only girl over my parents estate. My father passed away 7 years ago and my mom 84 is alive, I have a good relationship with her but she lives out of state. I have a solid job, but financially strapped, both of my cars are completely broke down and will cost a lot to fix, I borrow a friends vehicle. I feel so overwhelmed and scared I feel emotionally out of control i cry everyday. I wake up anxious, i feel loney and hopeless, I am scared, Some days i dont want to leave my room. I make myself o places. I have a 26 year old son who loves me and is very good to me he is my only friend, My daughter is not very nice, I have fears of loss, abandonment , anxiety, i cry, i feel all alone, today i didn t go to work today, that happens once in a while like once a month, I usually just fall apart and go to work anyway and maintain. Sometimes i cry relly hard when I get in the car on my way home, I dont want to go home cause i am afraid to feel so all alone..I need relief from my grief, fear, and sadness. I was always able to get through things in my life before and i feel like this is beating me , not me beating it. I am 52 and menopausal to boot. i feel out of control inside and want to feel reasonably normal again , im scared

I ve been experiencing feelings that have best been described as anxiety since I was around nine. I always had difficulty relating to my peers and feeling comfortable with my self image. The best way I can describe it feeling from my perspective is: It feels like your swimming as hard as you can, but you can t seem to break the surface and get your head above water. As I progressed into high school my parents began to recognize behavioral signs of this as my grades began to fall. Speaking with my primary doctor my mother blamed my change in hormones and had me put on birth control to control my mood swings. The pills didn t do much, but it kept taking them anyway because mom insisted that there could be no other reason for these feelings. At the same time this occurred my father lost his electrical company to economic downturn and my family filed bankruptcy. My freshman year my mother was diagnosed with chronic lymphomic leukemia, and I shut down. I stopped talking to old friends and lost interest in things I used to enjoy. Late in my junior year in high school my father finally asked me if I might need someone to talk to. I told him no, but began making weekly lunch appointments with a school counselor. It never made the feelings go away, but I didn t stop. It felt nice to talk and be taken seriously. She talked to me like I was an adult and understood my desire to do things like straighten, sort, or count. By this point it had reached a stage where I was beginning to feel uncomfortable with certain things. Like, I can t sit down in a room with the door open. I have to stand until someone closes the door. I feel the need to do things in even number, specifically numbers that are in multiples of 6. Odd numbers make me uncomfortable. On a day where I m feeling particularly anxious I ll do things like was my hands over and over till it feels right, or count bites at lunch sometimes not eating simply because it felt wrong (I hate my body). Describing these feelings she would remind me not to chew my nails or cuticles till I bled because I tend to fidget. The feelings never went away, but she convinced me to try to talk to my doctor. She would loose her job to budget cuts in the district the next year. When I told my parents I wanted to ask my doctor about my anxiety they told me to stop being so emotional. I would move on to barely graduate high school. I am now 19 years old and have had to drop out of college as my parents have moved to phoenix az ( I live in northern michigan) to find work and i can no longer afford to keep attending classes at my local community college. I am renting my parents house with my boyfriend (whom I met my senior year in high school). The only friend I have because I have difficultly talking to people. He listens and attempts to console me when I lay awake because I can t breath I m so anxious, but can t explain why. He is a good listener, but admits he isn t sure he can even begin to understand. Over the years I ve tried everything from yoga and meditation to xanax and counselling, butt talking to someone and things like meditation of writing or other things that are suppose to make me feel better never help me to shake the feelings that at this stage keep me awake and make me too nauseous to eat, and the xanax makes me feel like a depressed zombie tired all the time. It s embarrassing to admit and I know how it sounds, ( like every other college stoner) but I ve tried self medicating with marijuana and it feels nice. I can feel my muscles (which nearly aways ache) relax. I can sleep all the way through the night and make a meal and actually eat it instead of cooking and watching my boyfriend eat because by the time it s done I feel so nauseous with stress I m not even hungry. I need help. I m sick and tired of feeling this way all the time. It has effected too much of my life and I m ready to get better, but the only thing that seems to really help me is illegal and I don t know where my state stands on medical marijuana use as I have never discussed these feelings with my doctor and had them taken as anything more than hormones and now because of my financial situation I can t afford health insurance. Help me I need advice please?

Hello ! I am a 38 year old female. I have been having really bad dizziness for almost 12 years now. It started with a vertigo attack out of the blue in 2000 . I had not been sick prior to this and was in good health. After the vertigo attack I was left with a rocking sensation and general off balanced feeling. This was all day every day to some degree. Smetimes it was bad and sometimes I could handle it. I would lay in bed at night and feel like I was on a ship out at sea. The doctors thought it was anxiety but I knew my body and knew this was not from anxiety. I had many blood tests for diabetes , thyroid, anemia and others to check for deficiencies and many others. I had ultra sounds of my heart, ekg s, blood test s to check heart enzymes , liver function and kidney function. I had an EEG also. All of these tests came back normal. I had a c-scan of my head and neck and also a MRI. They did find a small meningioma tumor in the right front lobe of my brain but said that it was benign and was not anything to worry about. I then saw a neurologist who said he didn t think it was brain related. I then went to an ENT and had the ENG and other test done. He determined I had menieres disease due to symptoms and an abnormal caloric test. I started vestibular rehab and felt better after a while. I still had dizziness everyday all day but it was much more bearable and I got on with life again. The last eight months symptoms have came crashing back really bad again. It started with me being really tired and way dizzier then normal. I was under a tremendous amount of pressure at work and just every day life. When it got really bad I was driving home from a restaurant with my kids. We had just went out to eat and it was Asian food, which I know is packed with sodium and causes issues with people with menieres disease. Anyway, I was driving back and started feeling really tired and kept yawning. I then felt really bloated and like my jeans were too tight. So I felt like I couldn t breathe well and kept yawning over and over. I then started feeling like I may pass out. I stopped at the red light and put my car in park just in case I did. Well it passed after a minute so I continued home which was only a few blocks away. When I got out of the car I felt really shaky and weak and just wanted to lay down. My mom checked my sugar levels and it was a little high, like 180. SO I layed down and thought it was the food, For the next few weeks I felt really tired and still dizzy but not the passing out feeling. Then one night at work a really overwhelming tired feeling came over me and I fet like I was going to pass out again. They called the emergency department and they transported me to the hospital. I hadn t ate much that day and they thought it was because of that because all of the blood tests, ekg, and chest x-rays came back normal. I kept being really tired and dizzy and I finally had to quit work and even give up driving because every time I drove I would feel dizzy and weak. I went back to the ENT and he redid the ENG and everything came back normal this time.He said he thinks I still have menieres but isn t sure if that is what it is since testing was normal this time. I had another MRI, which was no different then the last one. I am just not sure where to go from here and I don t really think my doctors know either and are chalking it up to anxiety. I know that I do have anxiety but it is caused by the way I feel. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Medicines - Lotrel for HBP - controlled on medicine. Have been on for years. Atenolol foe heart palpitations- works wonderfully - have been on for years also Symptoms Dizziness -Whirling in head- sometimes quick vertigo lasting a few seconds- feeling as though on an elevator when it stops - Foggy headed - sometimes can t concentrate due to head symptoms Weakness Fatigued Eyes feel blurred sometimes or hard to focus Walking makes dizziness worse / laying down brings relief / when standing still in one place I feel like I may fall over Head pressure and ear pressure Ringing in ears at times Sorry this is so long but I wanted to give as much information as possible. Thank you in advance.
