Is Lower Abdominal Pain Including Sharp Pain Near Hip Bone After Being On Mirena IUD For A Year Normal?

I ve had the mirena IUD for over a year and I still get lower abdominal pain (similar to menstrual cramping), including sharp pains on my left side near the hip bone. I m not sure if this is normal or if there is a problem with it. My gyno said it was normal for up to 6 months, but I ve had it for 12 months already, I m concerned there is a problem with it. I get these kinds of cramps quite frequently.

Hi,

Consult a gynecologist and plan for an ultrasound to look for any pelvic collection. As a first line management you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
