Is A Stained Tongue With Raised Taste Buds Normal After A Tonsillectomy?

hello, i am 15 years old and i had a tonsillectomy 7 days ago and now i have a white stained tongue and a lot of raised taste buds at the back of my tongue. the back of my tonsils are almost healed, all scabs are gone but the back of my throat is still raw and a little white. I was wondering if it is thrush or there is something else causing this?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand..

As per your complain white stained tongue seems to be most probably due to thrush that is a fungal infection and can be secondary to antibiotics and steroids that might be given to you pre and post surgery..
The swollen taste buds at the back of tongue can be swollen Circumvallate Papillae and can be either secondary to infection or due to throat irritation..
I would however suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and if it is thrush he can advise yo antigungal mouthwash like Nystatin mouthwash, sucking Clotrimazole lozenges and take ample of probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic..
Do warm saline gargles for reducing swelling of taste buds.
Take a soft diet and ample of fluids..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
