Infant. On Breastfeeding As Well As Formula. Normal Weight And Growth. Continue Both Forms Of Milk?

My baby is almost nearly 3 months 20 days old now. Since birth, we are feeding her with both mother's milk and lactogen 1 (nestle). Her weight is appropriate as per age. We are only supplementing her with lactogen since mother's milk is not enough for her. Just want to know whether we can continue to use both forms of feed till 6 months. If there are any suggestions, please let us know.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to the platform of Health Care Magic.

Exclusive breast feed is promoted to all lactating mothers as it has got plenty of advantages.

If the child is regularly gaining weight according to his age with the breast feed only, then it represents, that the child is getting adequate and sufficient milk from the mother and there is no need of supplementation.

The more child sucks the breast, more information is transmitted to the brain for further production of breast milk (suckling reflex). So if bottle feed is added in between, then naturally the child will not suck at that particular time. Hence no information will be sent to the brain for further production of milk for that particular feed. Thus gradually less milk will be produced by the breast if bottle feed is given in between.

The nipple of the bottle is quite soft while the nipple of the mother is hard to suck. So the baby starts preferring the bottle nipple and stops the sucking of mother's nipple, thereby reducing the sucking reflex and further reducing the breast milk production.

In Bottle fed child there are;
More chances of infections,
Less immunity.
Poor bonding between mother and child.

While
Breast milk is always pure, Fresh, and ready made,on right temp
Uncontaminated, Aseptic.Inexpensive ,less chances of Allergy.
Lactoferrin (present in mother's milk) protects the baby against certain diseases
Significantly protects against RTI & GIT infections.
Helps in Spacing (lactation amenorrhea)

So breast feeding always scores far better than bottle feed.

Hope the query is answered and useful to you and your friend circle.

Thanks

only mothers milk would have been best no doubt over this.what made you think that your breast milk was not enough.if a baby is gaining 20-25 gm weight everyday and passing urine 4-5 times in 24 hrs thn the feed on which baby is sufficient.anyway continue with what you are giving to your child when you have once started but try to avoid bottle feeding and give milk to your baby by bowl and spoon if outside feeding is needed.
