Infant. Hoarse Voice, No Fever Or Cold. Immunized 5 Days Back. History Of Cold In Family. Possible Infection?

I noticed that my 2 month old baby's voice is a bit hoarse. He has no fever or colds at all. He was immunized 5 days ago. My concern is that my husband contracted colds a few days ago. Is there a possibility that the baby is infected too? I don't notice any symptoms of the cold though. My baby cries a lot though specially when hungry. Thank you.

Hoarseness at any age is generally a viral infection that causes runny nose and other cold symptoms and thickening of the vocal cords. Crying a lot can also cause hoarseness but in neither case is this harmful.

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

It seems the child is having an infection of throat such as pharyngitis.

It could be a viral illness as there is infection is going in the family.

As there is no fever, nothing to worry.

Observe for any symptoms like cold, cough, and fever and consult the doctor if you find any symptoms.

Whenever child feels hungry they will cry and it is his way of expression so nothing to worry.

Hand wash of family members to maintain hand hygiene will prevent this type of infection spread before touching the kids.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
