Increase In Facial Hair And Body Hair. Diagnosed As PCOS. Prescribed Gluformin. Any Side Effects? Will Hair Growth Reduce?

Hi I am 34 year old , was getting too much facial & body hair in past 1.5 years. Also I used to get periods for sometimes just for one day. I have eight year old son.My weight is 71 kg and I am 5 feet 1 inch tall. I underwent through some tests as prescribed by doc : Blood sugar fasting, thyroid profile (T3, T4, TSH), Cortisol Test, LH, FSH , Electrolytes(Na,K,CI), Prolactin . These all Tests Reports are normal. After my Ultrasound of whole abdomen, he told me that I have PCOS in right ovary. He advised me two tablets of gluformin xl 500 mg and one tablet aldactone 50 mg daily. Will these medicines have any side effects , will my existing hair growth will reduce?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

PCOS is a cause for abnormal hair growth.

Metformin (glyformin) is one of the medications that is commonly used in PCOS. It reduces the insulin resistance that is associated with the condition, helps with weight loss and may also help to improve the periods and fertility if this is desired.
It will also help with the abnormal hair growth.

The main problem persons experience with this medication is gastrointestinal upset (nausea, constipation, bloating, diarrhoea). These side effects may or may not occur.

Spirnolactone can also be used in this condition. It has effects that opposed the action of the male hormones in the body and can reduce hair growth and help with irregular periods.
The main complications would be nausea, breast tenderness and increased potassium levels.

I hope this helps
