Dear sir/madam

If you have any impending cardiac risk like raised cholesterol, triglycerides and low HDL levels, then statins are advised.
Atrovastatin is a lipid soluble statin which lowers the LDL cholesterol and decreases the cardiovascular risk.
These statins does not have any effect on the blood sugars, atarvostatin is advised in patients with diabetes. The main concept of treating diabetes is to lower the heart risks. In this position we insist to continue statins.

Thanks

General & Family Physician Dr. Pavan Kumar Gupta's  Response
Hello,
It is not clear from your question  whether you are using METFORMIN regularly or not.
Your query indicates that as if you get abnormal blood sugar levels only when you take
ATORVASTATIN.
Have you ever stopped ATORVASTATIN and see the effect on blood sugar levels?
You have not mentioned your cholesterol levels.
In case they are high, then you may stop taking ATORVASTATIN, as it can definitely cause high blood sugar levels in few individuals and so you can take a drug belonging to different class of anti cholesterol medications like EZETIMIBE.
The risk of cardiovascular diseases increases 2-4 fold in diabetics as compared to non diabetics.
Observe dietary control and keep walking regularly as you are doing.
Make sure that your blood sugar levels are controlled meticulously.
Thanks
