How To Treat Light Headed?

I ve recently been feeling very light headed and spaced out , and have been feeling as though I am about to faint when standing up too quickly. My hands are often cold, my veins disappear and my lips go pale. Sometimes I have palpitations. When I get this spaced out feeling, it is as though I can t concentrate on anything, my words become muddled and I feel slightly confused/blurry. This usually happens in the early afternoon, and sometimes causes me to leave university early as I become anxious and muddled. I wondered whether the cause of this could be heart/blood pressure related? My thyroid levels have been checked, and are fine. I eat a very healthy diet, am a 22year old female and am fairly active. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to:
1. Any pathology in the vestibular apparatus in inner ear (it is associated with maintenance of body posture & balance)
2. Any fluctuation in blood pressure levels (such as Postural Hypotension)
3. Decrease in blood sugar levels (Hypoglycemia)
4. Deficiency of certain nutrients like Iron, Vitamin B 12, Calcium, etc. which interferes with blood formation & nerve conduction.

Symptomatic relief can be obtained with Vestibular sedatives.
In addition, you can take nervigenic agents (like Vit B6, B12, Folic acid) & Pantoperazole (to be taken 30 minutes before meals).
Investigations like complete blood count, estimation of blood pressure and blood sugar levels and vestibular function tests will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Meanwhile, maintain adequate hydration, take a healthy balanced diet & avoid sudden head movements.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
