Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

Usually IBD patients have flares then and there.
Since there is no cure for Inflammatory Bowel disease, you have to follow both life style changes and control of flare of symptoms.
I usually recommend my patients to use these drugs like immunomodulators and steroids on flare episodes only.
When used during pregnancy azathioprine may increase the risk of premature birth, low birth weight and miscarriage. It may also decrease blood cell counts in the baby. It should not be used during pregnancy.
Azothioprine also cause bone marrow suppression, hepatitis, pancreatitis etc.

One dietary intervention we may recommend is a low-residue diet, a very restricted diet that reduces the amount of fiber and other undigested material that pass through your colon.
Doing so can help relieve symptoms of diarrhea and abdominal pain.
If you do go on a low-residue diet, be sure you understand how long you should stay on the diet, because a low-residue diet doesn't let you get all the nutrients you need.
In such patients, i used to recommend to take vitamin supplements.

Another important thing is to learn how to manage stress, which may worsen your symptoms.
One thing you might want to do is to make a list of things that cause you stress and then consider which ones you can eliminate from your daily routine. Also, when you feel stress coming on, it can help to take several deep breaths and release them slowly by blowing out.
Exercise regularly.
Spend time with your friends and colleagues.
Engage in activities like sports, reading novels etc.
Try relaxation techniques like Yoga and Meditation.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
