However in a 88 year old with COPD and congestive heart failure, the heart functioning might be seriously compromised. She is also coughing up blood which can be due to the lung cancer itself. In the above scenario, considering the heart dysfunction and lung cancer, the expectancy of life is less than a year, and might be less than even 6 months. In my opinion she should be spending time at the hospice and be given pain relief and supportive care so that she can feel comfortable. She might also be having a mild stomach infection which requires to be treated immediately and might be an emergency. Please do not worry.
