What is considered early to you bc I heard the average smoker gets lung cancer after 65.

I'm just asking. no organ is showing anything that I know of I'm just asking bc I smoked for 7 years in my 20s but stopped at 26.

one doctor said I shouldn't worry because I stopped at a young age and only have a total of 3 pack years. he said I will heal back up to a non smoker if I never start

I currently have no symptoms. the only reason I ask is he said I don't have to worry about mutation because that takes a while and then I was wondering out precancerous cells

Brief Answer:
Lung cancer does affect individuals between the age 20-30 years.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, you are right about the age.
Commonly lung cancer occur after the age of 60 years, both in smokers as well as non smokers.
But lung cancer do occur at younger age (between 20-30 years), both in smokers and non smokers. Though the percent is very less but I have seen young patients (less than 30 years) getting lung cancer.
So age is not an absolute criteria.
If you are asymptomatic then no need to worry for lung cancer because you have left smoking.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Cancer can occur to any one at any age. So it is very difficult to say 100% about cancer in any individuals. Smoking of course increases risk of cancer but patients tend to get cancer without smoking also.
So smoking is not a sole thing to decide whether you will get cancer or not.
So, to answer this question I need more information.
Please let me know
1. Do you have any family history of cancer?
2. Do you have any symptoms like cough, hemoptysis (blood in sputum), weight loss, anorexia, fever etc?
3. How many cigarettes in a day you used to smoke?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.

No need to worry much about lung cancer as you are asymptomatic and left smoking.
Occupation also plays very important role in lung cancer etiology.
So please let me know where do you work.

Do you have any chronic chemicals or fumes exposure?
If not done, you should get done chest X-ray screening.
Have you undergone chest x-ray yet?

Brief Answer:
It's better to get done the chest x-ray.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question,
I can understand your concern.

It's good that you are not having any harmful exposure.
And in my opinion, it is better to get done chest X-ray.
If the chest x-ray is normal then no need to worry about lung diseases. This will ease your anxiety also.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Wish you good health. Thanks.

they can tell from an x ray if I'm going to get lung cancer?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Drkaushal85 (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Yes, you can get idea.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Honestly speaking, exactly no one will say.
But chest x ray will tell you if future action is required or not.
If chest x ray is normal then no need to worry.
But if chest x ray is showing tiny spot then CT thorax is needed.
Regular follow up CT scans are required if there is nodule or any suspicious lesion.
Best advantage of this is early detection of cancer. In such cases lobectomy is done. This gives excellent prognosis (near normal).
So get done chest x ray.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

I'm worried about the radiation tho

Also, I can't just walk in and demand one. what do i tell them in order to get one

What is the dosage? should I be worried about it causing other problems?

if it comes up normal, does that mean I am clear of cancer?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Drkaushal85 (6 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
No need to worry about radiation exposure.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question.
I can understand your concern.
X ray requires very less radiation.
So no need to worry for radiation exposure and related side effects.
If chest x ray is normal then no need to worry for lung cancer.
But you should get done periodic chest x ray s like every year.
This will help you in detecting lung cancer at the earliest.
Once a year chest x ray is not at all harmful.
Where do you live? I mean you need GP 's prescription for chest x ray?
