Is Heart Transplantation Possible While Having Congestive Heart Failure And Bronchiectasis?

Do you think it is possible for a 60 year old man who has congestive heart failure and Bronchiactasis to undergo a heart transplant? His doctors are saying it can't be done because of the damaged lungs. (30 years ago he had lung cancer and the radiation caused this.)

Hi There

After going through your query I understand your concern.

I would like to tell you that, yes the doctors are right as heart transplant can't be done in patients with any type of chronic lung disease such as bronchiactasis because during a heart transplant patient has to be kept on a heart lung machine which requires healthy and properly functioning lungs. So he can't undergo heart transplantation and has to be managed with optimal medical therapy.

Hope to have been helpful.
Kind Regards
