How Can I Treat Earache?

I have had an earache since Thursday ( It s 12:30 am {now Monday}) It is very severe. My lymph nodes in front of my ear are swollen. The lymph nodes directly under and behind my ear are swollen as well. It hurts extremely bad, I can t lie on my side because the pressure goes down to my eardrum ( lying on my left side, because it s on my right ear) and I can t lie on my right side because it puts too much pressure on the outside od my ear, causing pain outside and in. It is very painful and difficult to open my jaw . I am miserable!!! I have school tomorrow!!! I need to go!!! I hate skipping school ( I m homeschooled) because then I have summer school due to missing so many days ( I am also a Hashimoto s Thyroiditis victim). Please help me!!!! I want to get wellll!!!!

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi welcome to health care magic forum,

Earache is called external ottitis due to infection of external ear. Lymph nodes around the ear are draining area of ear, so it tends to involve with infection.

In my opinion you can take a broad spectrum antibiotic and an antinflammatory drugs.

If drugs are not available over the counter than you can take paracetamol 500mg twice daily for one day. You can give a hot foamantation around the ear to relieve the pain temporarily.

You can visit an ENT specialist at evening after school.

Hope this may help you to avoid skipping school.

regards.
