History Of Ovarian Cysts. Heavy Bleeding, Pain In The Back. Pain While Having Intercourse. What Is The Treatment?

I have a history of ovarian cysts and feel like I have one now. Symptoms are heavy bleeding for 7+ days with the Mirena IUD and have had several heavy cycles in a row. Also a sharp pain that starts in my back and goes to the front part of my thigh - like a charlie horse you can stretch out. I have also had sharp pain during intercourse (which was my first thought the cysts were back). Overall the past week I have been highly exhausted and I am usually on the go.

hi,
thank you for your query.

Pain caused by ovarian cysts may be treated with:

1.Pain relievers, including acetaminophen/paracetamol (Tylenol or Panadol), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen

2.A warm bath, or heating pad, or hot water bottle applied to the lower abdomen near the ovaries can relax tense muscles and relieve cramping, lessen discomfort, and stimulate circulation and healing in the ovaries.

3.Combined oral contraceptive pill – the hormones in the pills may regulate the menstrual cycle, prevent the formation of follicles that can turn into cysts, and possibly shrink an existing cyst.

4.Also, limiting strenuous activity may reduce the risk of cyst rupture or torsion.

but,if the Cysts persist beyond two or three menstrual cycles it may indicate more serious disease and should be investigated through ultrasonography and laparoscopy,

thank you,
wishing you good health..
