Heart Pounding Causing Sleeplessness. Worse When Rolled Over To Left Side. Suggestions?

Thank you for you time. My heart beat keeps me awake, when I roll over on my left side it seems to be worse. my bp is 130 over 70. I am active by running and general exercise. I am 52 years old. This problem has been going on for about a year but seems to be getting worse. my job requires a medicial exam bi-annual. nothing has ever shown a problem and during the day I feel fine but now I can t sleep.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Active / running / only at bed time / normal bi-annual examination / duration one year - all these point out the condition is not serious; may only be anxiety.

However, at 50+, you should see a cardiologist... EKG / HOLTER (24 to 48 hour ambulatory monitoring) / ECHOcardiogram / TMT (Treadmill exercise ECG) / LABORATORY work-up – may all be necessary for further assessment and assistance.
The treating doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Pankaj Malhan's  Response
Hi
Palpitations or the heart pounding can be the manifestation of a plenty of reasons.
Hyperthyroidism, anemia, mitral valve prolapse, anxiety, ischemic or valvular heart disease are few of the reasons for it.
I would advise you to consult a physician , you probably need thorough clinical examination along with investigation to reach the diagnosis.
Thanks.
