Having Swollen Glands, Fever. Concerned If This Is Flu And Through Breastfeeding, Baby Will Also Be Infected
I had a c section 9 days ago. This morning I woke up with swollen glands and by this evening, I had a 100.3 fever. I am concerned that this is a flu and that my breastfeeding baby will get it and I am afraid it is an infection from my incision. Should I call my OB this evening or see if my fever breaks and it is just a virus?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, You have not mentioned which glands are swollen. - If they are milk glands /axillary glands, it's most likely to be engorged breasts with milk collected, This will subside by expressing milk from breast to empty it.,fomentation,& antibiotic/anti inflammatory drugs with a doctor's advice. -If the glands you say are inguinal(groin)- it's more likely to be infection of the surgical incision. Being a post operative case,it's better to consult your OB ,get the condition assessed,& advice for suitable antibiotics rather than waiting for fever to break itself. Thanks.
