Have Swollen Feet, Nothing Found In X Ray, Sonogram, T2D Controlled By Diet. Possible Reason?

hello, i am have had one swollen foot since about April..it is sometimes worse then other times but always swollen.. I do not have health ins and cannot go to the Doctor. I went to the ER a bout 2 months ago and they did an xray and sonogram with no answers. I am T2D as well...controlled by diet ( however cannot afford test strips so I really do not know how my BS really is...My foot gets so swollen sometimes that it feels it will explode because its so tight .. there is still hair growing on my foot and i have feeling in it..I also have recently gained back some weight I had lost. I am a 39 year old woman , 5'4 and 170 pounds. Any help or suggestions ( other than go to the Dr) will be so very very appreciated.. Sincerely Pam

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Unilateral leg odema (swelling) is usually due to either Venous obstruction (eg. deep vein thrombosis) or Lymphatic obstruction ( eg. Primary lymphedema) .

A Duplex ultrasonagraphy helps in establishing the diagnosis.

I suggest you to consult your treating physician for a detailed workup and further management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

General Surgeon Dr. Hari Charan Perigela's  Response
Hi
It could be lymphoedema of the lower limb.
Unless it is infected, there is no problem.
I prescribe Lympedim tablets to my patients with similar complaints.
Keep your blood sugar in control.
It is not reversible.
You can use elastic crepe bandage for the affected limb.
If it becomes tight, you should keep your limb elevated.
If it becomes red,you have to take antibiotic and anti inflammatory drug.
Wish you good health
Regards
