Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

If you have mentioned your age in the description, it would have been a bit informative. There are numerous causes for pain in the hip joint.

The commonest causes being osteoarthritis followed by bursitis and Avascular necrosis etc.

As your xray showed no abnormality, an MRI scan of your hip joint is needed to establish the cause for your hip pain.

The general treatment guidelines are as follows -

* Rest - When the hip is inflamed, it is important to rest it and avoid any activities that cause pain

* Ice packs - Applying ice packs will reduce the pain and reduce the inflammation

* Physical therapy - in the form of mild and gradual stretching followed by strengthening exercises will be helpful

* Analgesics - like Advil or Aleve will ease the pain and are taken as needed

If your symptoms are not resolving with the above measures, consult an orthopedic surgeon for a detailed evaluation and further management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
