Have Chronic Cough And Asthma. Throat Produces Excess Clear Slimy Fluid. Quit Smoking. Solution?
Hello Doc. For the past maybe 5 years I've suffered a chronic cough where my throat produces excess amounts of clear slimey fluid. I hack it up all the time. Smoked cigarettes for 4 years and recently quit. I also have asthma. My chest seems to be getting worse but I don't know what it is. Every day I cough slime up. And it's typical! It's clear slime. Sometimes has tar from my old habit.

9There are different causes of chronic cough. The most common causes are: (1) post nasal drip.Allergic sinusitis and post nasal drip is a common cause of chronic cough. In this case there may be the feeling of mucus in the throat and clearing of the throat repeatedly. This is treated by the use of topical nasal sprays and antihistamines.
If this is the cause, finding out what provokes the allergic reaction would be helpful. This would be done by allergy testing
(2) Cough variant asthma. In some persons with asthma, the main symptom is cough. This tends to be worse at night and/or in the early morning.
(3)GERD-gastroesophageal reflux disease is a common cause of chronic cough. Some persons may have no other symptoms than the cough. Others may have burning pain in the chest, bloating, regurgiation of food, vomiting.
You should consider visiting your doctor for an evaluation to determine the cause of the cough.
