Hair Longitudinal Fracture On Third Metacarpal. X-ray Done. Splint 70 Degree Angle Cast. Is The Bone Malformed?

hi i hit a wall with an angle four weeks ago, most of the impact was on my middle knuckle. i went to the er after 5 days of pain .
the x-ray shewed a hair longitudinal fracture on the third metacarpal towards the joint . they did a splint 70 degree angle cast and body tapped my index and middle finger after three weeks i don't feel no more pain when touching my third knuckle but i have very limited mobility in my ring finger only i can't make a fist or extend it flat on a table .
my question is this normal after being in a 70 degrees angle for 3 weeks or the bone malformed ? thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
You developed a longitudinal hairline fracture in the 3rd metacarpal bone towards the joint, following a hit. This was diagnosed after 5 days of the injury (X-Ray). You were applied with a splint in your middle and index finger at 70 degree angle for 3 wks. Now you don't feel any pain, even on touching the 3rd knuckle. Your problem now is you have limited mobily in your ring finger and you are not able make a fist or extend it flat on the table.
This answer is very simple: just imagine what was the position of your ring finger, when your middle and index finger were kept in 70 degree angle. It should have been kept in a semi flexed position, without much movement. This is the cause of your present problem. Do Physiotherapy after consulting the orthopedic surgeon. You will be 100% alright. But wait patiently.
Best wishes

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hello
Thanks for posting your query.
Stiffness of joint is common after immobilization. As yo had fracture 3rd metacarpal, so after strapping of finger and splint, stiffness is common. Do not worry, do physiotherapy and finger mobilization, you will be alright soon.
Hope this will help you
Regards.
