Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been throwing up since 9 pm last night. I threw up my dinner (Chinese) and the beer I drank with it. I also had diarrhea and stomach cramps. At about 11 pm I drank some water and attempted to sleep. Every 15-20 minutes of getting into bed I felt nauseous and had to make a run for the bathroom but at that point I was struggling to bring up the vomit. It felt like sonething was blocking my throat. It was a brown thick liquid and difficult to throw up, I had to dry heave and force my finger down my throat before my throat would open and let it through. This happened about 7 times between 11:30 pm - 4 am. My stomach has settled but I still have diarrhea and have not been able to fall asleep and its currently 10:30 am :( any advice?
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described details, there could also be possibility of acute viral gastroenteritis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ gastroenterologist and should go for thorough check up.
You should also go for complete blood count, ultrasound imaging, and serum electrolytes, renal function test.
You should take complete antibiotic therapy, antispasmodics, probiotics, antipyretics, if needed.
You should maintain your hydration status by taking potassium rich liquids.
Take soft diet along with yogurt and banana.
Avoid milk and all milk related products.
There appears to be least possibility of GERDs or acid reflux.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
