Got Hit In The Hip/groin Area. Is Painful. Have A Tiny Bruise. Feel Discomfort When Sitting. Standing. Time To Heal?

2-3 weeks ago my lawn mower hit a curb and as a result the force of the lawn mower bouncing back hit me in the hip/groin area. For the amount of pain I felt, there was just a tiny bruise on my hip, which was not where my pain was coming from The bruise tiny bruise went away and very quickly. I occasionally run 3-5 miles and I have no pain. But when I lay on my right side or when I move from the sitting / standing position I feel a level of discomfort, as if the injury just occurred. How long should I wait for this pain to go away or what symptons should I have before seeing a doctor?

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Generally, the groin strain should resolve within 2-3 weeks of adequate rest and should not bother you thereafter.

The treatment of Groin strain involves
* REST - It is important to rest following the injury to allowed the injured muscle to properly heal.
* STRETCHING - Gentle stretching is helpful, but it should not be painful.
* ICE PACKING - Apply ice to the injured area in the acute phase (first 48 hours after injury), and then after activities. Ice will help calm the inflammatory response and stimulate blood flow to the area.
* MOIST HEAT APPLICATION - Before activities, gentle heating can help loosen the muscle. Apply a heat pack to the groin prior to stretching or exercising. As a general rule of thumb, remember to heat before an activity and ice afterwards
* ANTIINFLAMMATORY MEDICATION - Oral anti-inflammatory medications (such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, or Motrin) can help relieve symptoms of pain and also calm the inflammation.
* PHYSICAL THERAPY - may speed up the recovery process. Therapeutic modalities such as Ultrasound, Massaging and specific exercises will be helpful.

If you dont find any symptom relief with the above measures, then consult your family physician.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Hi...
Thanks for the query..
It could be a soft tissue injury like a tear in the muscle...
You can apply some steam for pain relief if you have any...You can wait for 2-3 wks if there is no swelling or any mobility restriction..
If you have any one of them better to consult a doctor to know whether any other injury is there..
Take care..
