Got Ears Pierced, Area Sore, Swollen Around The Earring, Took Panadol/ Paracetamol, Eased The Pain. Should I Go To GP?
My sister and I got our ears pierced two days ago at the same place. It seemed very clean and professional. Lately, she has been complaining that they are sore and the area around the earring is very swollen and red. She took Panadol/ Paracetamol and it seems to have eased the pain slightly but the swelling hasn t gone down. Was this the right way to go? Should we go see our GP?
It is quite likely that the area is infected. She needs to remove the source of the infection- the earring. After the infection has healed then it may be possible to put back the earring.
After the earring is removed, the inflamed area should be cleaned with an anti septic solution such as dilute bethadine or hydrogen peroxide. You can clean it 2 to 3 times a day. You can also apply an antibiotic cream to the area. The use of anti inflammatory pain killers such as ibuprofen or aspirin would help with the pain
It may be best to have the area assessed by your doctor if you do not notice any improvement after 24 to 48 hrs.
I hope this helps
