Fasting Blood Sugar High. Active Individual With Healthy Weight. Does The Food Consumed Prior Fasting Effect The Result?

Hello! I had a 10 hour fasting blood sugar of 108. I did have more carbs than I normally have for dinner and a few bites of ice cream. I'm 25 yrs old, fit, 5'5" 1/2, and I weigh 120. I race half marathons and 25k's. Why would my blood sugar be 108 after fasting for 10 hours? Is this normal? I figured it was what I ate the night before but I also assumed my healthy body would be able to metabolize it better than that in a 10 hour time frame.
Thank you!

Hi!
welcome to HCM!
you had a fasting blood glucose test 108 that is a level between 100-125mg/dL means you have impaired fasting glucose, a type of prediabetes. This increases your risk for type 2 diabetes. A level of 126 mg/dL and higher most often means diabetes.
You can get Glycated hemoglobin (A1C) test done.it indicates your average blood sugar level for the past two to three months. It measures the percentage of blood sugar attached to hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells. The higher your blood sugar levels, the more hemoglobin you'll have with sugar attached. An A1C level of 6.5 percent or higher on two separate tests indicates that you have diabetes.
If type 1 diabetes is suspected, your urine will be tested to look for the presence of ketones. a C peptide level — a test used to measure the ability of the pancreas to secrete insulin — may be ordered. Levels of C peptide are usually low in people with type 1 diabetes, but may be normal or high in people with type 2 diabetes.
hope this helps!
Take care!
