Does Hydrochlorothiazide Causes Spike In Blood Sugar?

Yes I am a 57 year old female I am about 40 lbs over weight, and I have been taking 25.mg of hydrochlorothiazide for over 10 years, for ringing in my right ear. My doc does routine blood work about every 6months, and has been having me test my blood sugar twice a day. it has been jumping all over the place even when I eat very healthy. some morning it s as high as 250 when I test in the morning, then in the afternoon about 2-3 hours after lunch I test it again and its 120. my question is can the HTZ be causing the spike in my blood sugar ? with out being considered diabetic?

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear Madam
I have gone through your query carefully and understood your concerns.
Hydrochlorothiazide do cause slight but subtle increase of blood sugars.
But in my opinion and in your scenario the raise in blood sugars can be attributed more to your excess weight which will increase your insulin resistance.
The age is also an independent risk factor for rise of blood sugars.
i suggest to meet a Diabetologist or physician and check for Hba1c.
Best Regards.
