Diarrhea, Lower Back Pain, Loss Of Appetite, Blood In Urine. Taking Allupurinal For 3 Years, Flagyl. Suggestions?
After using allopurinal 200mg for 3 years,is it possible to develop a "sensitivity" to it? My husband has been experiencing diarrhea, flu like symptoms, achy lower back bilaterally, loss of appetite, wt loss, metallic taste in mouth and now today blood in urine. This has been going on for 41/2 weeks. Stool samples have been neg. so far but still awaiting c diff results. Feels ok in am and then before lunch he starts to weaken. Also takes 2 Flomax 0.4 per tab. These pills are taken with his breakfast. Presently taking Flagyl for past 4 days for ? C diff. The diarrhea is less frequent but remains runny. Uses extra strength Immodium following the episodes of diarrhea.

Since your husband is taking allopurinol 200 mg from last 3 years .
Note down side effects of this drug as,
Rash, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, paraesthesia, vertigo, headache, renal impairment .
Most common as above mentioned.
Occasionally thrombocytopenia ( may have developed blood in urine in your case).
Flomax 0.4 mg is for urine flow and nothing to do side effects of allopurinol .
All these symptoms are the side effects of drug.
If your husband's uric acid level is less then 6 mg/100 ml then dose can be reduced after consultation with your treating doctor.
Plenty of water intake is very important along allopurinol.
