Diagnosed As Bloody Cyst On Ovary, Premenstrual Pain. Done Cystectomy. Prescribed Danazol. What Do The Side Effects Mean?

hi i'm a medical doctor and i was diagnosed as having a silent bloody cyst on my rt ovary 5 months ago, it measured initially 5.5x6cm by US i had no symptoms what's so ever, i'm 43 single, very regular cycles, mild premenstrual pain usually releived with a single ibuprufen pill.
2 months after the initial diagnoses i went for a second US which showed no change in the size, so i was advised to go for endoscopy cystectomy with preservation of the ovary, so i did. in the presurgery MRI exam the actual size was 6.5x7cm.
i was prescribed Danazol 200mg three times a day for 6-9months. i don't intend to take it more than 4 months due to it's bad reputation of side effects.i'm healthy otherwise and take no medications on a chronic basis, but i'm overwt, and have episodes of migraine about 2-3 times a year.
hoarseness of voice, bone changes, cancer predisposition....and so many others....practically i'm taking a male hormone, and i was normal and asymptomatic....and still am....please advise me.

Hi Doctor,
I presume you had undergone an ovarian cystectomy for endometriosis. If you are not comfortable with Danozol then don't take it. Now a days very few doctors advise danazol for its adverse effects and also because better drugs are available. I suggest you do a repeat usg to check whether the cyst is reforming and if, we have other options. Medroxy progesterone is a effective and cheap alternative. It can be taken as oral tab or as a depot injection with the convenience of once in two months. If finance is not a constraint can opt for GnRH agonists. Stop taking Danazole.
