Depression,, Stomach Issues, Stress, Hot And Cold Flashes. History Of Having Hysterectomy, On Premarin. Varied Opinions Of Doctors To Stop And Continue Medicine. Help

I had a hysterectomy in 1991 I believe. years ago I was reduced on my premarin to half 0.625 mg. recently I was told to stop taking it because I am now 58 and it is time to stop. One of my doctors said to stop the other said it is not worth the health issues and weak bones. I am so not sure which direction to go. I really need some advice. I have reduced to every other day and slowly get off but I am going to so many issues depression, fatigue, stomach issues, I am under a lot of stress, anxiety, I am hot mostly at night and during the day freezing. What is right and what is wrong?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
In 1991 prescribed premarine ( estrogen 1.250 mg ) ,now you are taking 0.625 accordingly.
22 years back you were 35 -36 years and estrogen hormone was necessary for you.
When a female attain age around 55 years ( + - 5 years ) usually perimenopausal syndrome starts ( before onset of menopause) .
When menopause commence naturally depletion of estrogen occurs .
Due to depletion of estrogen female feels hot flushes, cold flushes, sweating , palpitation , anxiety , actually these symptoms bound to happen normally.
Now if you take estrogen on alternate day ,no harm , if you atop no harm except few symptoms including depression.
As you are taking this drug from last 22 years so need not to say any thing about side effects as these are non specific in females .
If you will stop estrogen ( premarine) within a short period you will be alright and will get rid of these symptoms .
These symptoms depends upon the nature of an individual persons.
So in my opinion taper of the drug very slowly .
Good luck for you life.
