Hi,

Amlodipine and Inderal are both excellent drugs for blood pressure control. They do both work differently with regard to lowering blood pressure and both have different side effects. Amlodipine does have the common side effect of swelling in the legs. I my experience I have seen this most commonly at dosages of 5 mg of more taken daily. Inderal (propranolol) does have a number of side effects as well. In men, this medication can cause erectile dysfunction which is a common side effect and can occur at really any dose.

In general, Inderal can cause fatigue, weight gain, dizziness and evening shortness of breath in certain individuals. Both medications require close monitoring by the physician and need a close eye by the patients to watch for these or for that matter any side effects than can potentially occur. In my patients, I try to keep the Amlodipine at a dose of 5 mg or less to avoid the leg swelling and for Inderal I try to keep the total daily dose at 20 mg or less to avoid the potential for side effects.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
