Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Going by your description, I would agree with my fellow dermatologist! It seems, you are having a superficial fungal infection known as pityriasis versicolor. In such cases we usually prescribe oral medicines like fluconazole or ketoconazole or itraconazole along with a topical antifungal cream( clotrimazole/ketoconazole etc). Please follow your friend's advise.
Take care
