Constant Increase In Blood Sugar After Rotator Cup Surgery. On Medication For BP, Cholesterol. How To Control?

My fasting blood sugar yesterday morning (Monday) at 8 am was 139. I ate breakfast about 9 am and then got on the road traveling. I ate lunch around 1:30 pm. Took blood sugar again at 6 pm and it was 188. Ate dinner around 7:30 pm and got home around 10 pm. Took blood sugar at 10:30 and it was 204. Took shower and went to bed. I felt dry mouth, little light headed and decided to take my blood sugar again at 2:15 am, Tuesday morning, and it was 231. I drunk a bottle of water. Yes, I am a borderline diabetic. Of course, I know either you are or you're not a diabetic but I control it with diet and exercise. I do take a pill for blood pressure and cholesterol. My numbers have constantly been under 100 but every since I had rotator cupp surgery about a couple of weeks ago, my numbers have been high and mostly between 100 and 130. What do you think about it being 231? Thanks.

Hello,
Your blood sugar levels are definitely high and you need proper medications to bring them down to normal levels.
It is always a problem with diabetes.
The day you are diagnosed with diabetes, more than 50% of your beta cells of pancreas are dead by then.
These beta cells are responsible for production of insulin which helps in controlling the blood sugar levels.
As the time passes, more and more of beta cells get damaged and one day a situation is reached that there are no active beta cells are there and then person needs injection insulin.
The same is happening to you.
You were previously controlled by diet and exercises but not any more now.
You need proper anti diabetic medications now.
Consult a specialist for the prescription.
Carry on with your dietary control and regular exercises.
Make it a point that you should control your blood sugar levels meticulously so as to avoid future micro as well as macro vascular complications.
Thanks

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Since your sugar level are constantly high throuh out the day and have the symptoms like dry mouth, this suggests diabetes. I advice you to start taking only required amount of calorie, dont stress yourself and have correct sleep cycle and regular out door exercises like cycling, swimming, jogging or aerobics. With these get done once HbA1c level with GTT to diagnose for diabetes and lipid profile. Revert back after a week with the above mentioned results and the drugs you are taking so than we can plan for further management.
Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Regards
Dr. Lohit

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcare magic,
I have gone through available details, you have High blood pressure and Dyslipidemia (deranged cholesterol Level).

Your blood sugar readings are in diabetic range current diagnostic criteria is Fasting blood sugar > 126 mg dl and Postprandial blood sugar is >200 mg/dl.

You should get your FBS, PPBS and HbA1c and start therapy for diabetes along with diabetic diet and exercise with monitoring of FBS and PPBS periodically.

If you are overweight try to lose some weight and avoid alcohol and smoking.
Commonly Metformin is used in such cases consult your physician and take proper prescription.
Hope this information helps.

Good Luck.
