Bruising On Thighs, Dark And Purplish, Spreading, Do Not Hurt, Itchiness. Fibromyalgia Flares Up. Insight?

Hi,

I have unexplained bruising on my thighs. They begin very dark purple and smaller than an eraser, in clusters of 5-10. Then they get lighter and bigger, like they're spreading out, and they turn more of a green color. They don't hurt, and they don't white-out when touched.

I'm particularly concerned because, about a month and a half ago, I experienced (for about a week) very itchy palms and soles. It moved up my legs and also to my nose. I had no rash, skin looked normal, but it itched uncontrollably. Since it's been a while, these symptoms may not be connected, I realize.

The other symptom I currently have is a burning sensation just under my right armpit and down the right side of my breast. I have had this for several months, now, but I have been attributing it to my fibromyalgia. The difference between this pain, though, and my typical fibromyalgia pain is that this pain has been consistent in that one spot, while my fibromyalgia flare-ups usually don't last more than a few days in one spot.

I know I'm probably being paranoid. But the bruises have me pretty worried. I would say I currently have about 25 on my thighs alone--most about the size of a fingertip. Any insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
From the description provided above I could think of two possibilities in your case
Firstly the burning sensation in your arm pit and infra mammary area could be intertrigo. It is characterised by a red rash that may give a burning sensation. It can be treated with application of antifungal steroid cream.
The unexplained bruising could be due to trauma, platelet deficiency, clotting factor deficiency, use of medicines like pain killers and steroids.

I would advise that you meet your consulting physician to get the lesions examined and managed accordingly.
Hope that helped.
Take care
