Bruise And Knot On Leg Near Ankle. History Of Being Hit By Ball. Serious?

Two weeks ago my friend and I were playing catch. She threw the ball at my legs and I couldn't get it. The ball hit the top of my leg by my ankle really hard and I fell to the ground. I had an instant bruise and knot in the same spot that the ball hit me. Since two weeks have went by the knot is still there. Is this a serious problem? What can I do to fix it?
