Hello,

You got bruise on your foot and ankle after you fell. The bruise is not healing and it is now causing you discomfort. After an internal blood vessel injury, blood pools under the skin causing black, purple / blue bruise. You are suggested to clean the wound and maintain hygiene. Apply ointment Thrombophob on the area affected to help disperse the blood clots under the skin.

You can apply any ointment containing Benzyl Nicotinate (2mg) + Heparin (50IU). It is used to treat bruises and hematoma (collection of blood under the skin). It speeds up the dissolution of the blood clot, decreasing the pain and swelling.

You are suggested to visit ER, get clinically examined by a GP to detect if it is purpura, petechiae or hematoma.

It will be accordingly treated. Get X-rays done to check for bone fractures. Get blood tests done to check for clotting disorders and vitamin deficiencies. You can take acetaminophen or NSAIDs after food, one stat when needed to reduce pain and swelling. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
