12 Year Old Having Hoarseness In Voice Frequently After Eating Oily Food. Redness In Throat. No Pain
Hello ! My son (age 12 - body type is slightly heavy) has been having hoarseness in his throat quite frequently for the past year or so. Also, if he eats something oily (butter, cheese, fat etc) it aggravates the problem. He does not scream or shout. There is no pain in his throat nor any problem in swallowing . There is some redness when we look at his throat from the inside. Can you please let us know what could be the cause of the same. Thank you

Pediatrician, Infectious Diseases, Dr. Hema Yadav's Response
Hello, Thanks for posting your query. Hoarseness and pharyngitis associated with fried or oily foods could be suggestive of an underlying allergy to certain food constituents or as a result of repeated respiratory infections in children with immunological susceptibility. It's advisable to consult an allergist and ear nose throat specialist to evaluate your child and confirm the diagnosis . Meanwhile adequate oral hygiene like twice daily brushing and gargling to prevent throat infections. Wishing you good health. Regards
