Brief Answer:
several.

Detailed Answer:
Ok, one assumes that the back pain has documented disk disease. Clearly there are articles showing that narcotics are the most effective drug.

Florida really messed up their narcotic prescribing. They literally were supplying large areas of the country with illegal prescription narcotics. The number of addicts is a significant percent of the total users of narcotics. Addicts use more drugs than legitimate non-dying people. For this reason, probably more than 50% of the total number of narcotic pills go to addicts rather than legitimate patients. In Maryland, this number exceeds how many are legitimately prescribed and essentially some/most of them have to come in from out of state.

Then the next point is YOU.
It's painful. OTC meds, aspirin like drugs, muscle relaxers, nerve pill such as gabapentin, lyrica, amitryptiline, lidocaine are all I got. They are not as good. Physical therapy and getting used to the pain is something that actually works. Yoga and stretching in a shower that has handrails and safety devices personally has been very good. (TENS UNITS and showers override the pain and stretch reflexes and allow movement/flexibility).
