Whatc Auses Blocked Ears?

default
Posted on Fri, 31 Oct 2014
Question: Ears felt blocked and "in a vacuum" after a full day of raking leaves. Day following, ears better, but persistent nausea with ears "feeling full" for over 24 hours now. KSeems as though the feeling (not quite dizziness) is worse when I move head up and back. Feel best when lying down. Have been drinking water, some juice, eating small amounts to keep blood sugar up (not a diabetic, no hypertension, and no other medical conditions that I'm aware of). Have been experiencing occasional tinnitus. Last preventative health visit with lipid panel and blood glucose all normal Sept 2014. Mother suffers from intermittent vertigo. Have already missed one day of work. Should I see an ENT?

Brief Answer:
inner ear conditions

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Vertigo (sensation of self or environment spinning) is most commonly due to conditions of the inner ear though they are other causes.

The inner ear conditions that are most common are: (1) menieres- this is associated with vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus

(2)BPPV- benign paroxysmal positional vertigo- in this condition the vertigo is worse in certain positions and lasts seconds to minutes

(3)vestibular neuronitis- episodes lasts for hours and days

Since your episodes occur in certain positions particularly then it is possible that it may be BPPV.
This is treated with performing certain maneuvers such as Epley at the doctor's office.

IF your doctor believe it is due to other inner ear conditions, treatment may vary.

It would be best to see an ENT doctor so that treatment can be initiated as soon as possible.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
