Brief Answer:
Complete evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for posting your query.

Here are a few things you could expect to face at the first prenatal appointment:

1.History---of your menstrual cycles, contraception, sexual contact, medical and/or surgical history, history of genetic or other relevant diseases in the family etc.

2. Clinical examination---which includes a physical as well as a pelvic examination.

3. Investigation---confirmation of pregnancy, blood counts, urinalysis, determination of blood group and look for incompatibilities, a pap smear to test for infections, serum tests for viral infections like Rubella, Hepatitis, Varicella and HIV. Genetic tests are done in necessary circumstances.

In addition, the consultant also helps you to calculate the expected date of delivery, current age of pregnancy, use of vitamins, proper diet, exercise, sexual activity and so on during pregnancy. You can also get your questions answered regarding your pregnancy symptoms, subsequent visits etc.

Hope your query has been answered. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
