Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

I am sorry to hear that your husband is struggling with his health.

management of cirrhosis of the liver can be very challenging. I agree with his doctors that maintenance therapy is very important. This generally will require regular follow-up visits. Medication can also be used to help minimize symptoms.

He may require additional drainage procedures if the fluid accumulates again in the abdomen.

I am glad to hear that he is having an endoscopy. The doctors can also lookfor evidence of gastrointestinal bleeding which can occur in patients who have cirrhosis.

regarding life expectancy this is very difficult to predict. This really depends on the degree of liver dysfunction. Patient with cirrhosis can be managed for many years successfully with regular follow-up visits.

I would recommend continued follow up with the liver specialist. Make sure he takes medications as prescribed. If you developed worsening of swelling in the abdomen or pain then you would want to make sure his doctors are aware as soon as possible.

finally maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine will also be integral to his continued health, longevity and quality-of-life.

Thank you again for sending the question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
