Brief Answer:
It's an antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic that is a drug to fight bacterial infections. The dosage you mentioned is sufficient for mild infection like pharyngitis or any bacterial infection. I could not know why your doctor prescribed it to you unless you provide either the diagnosis or your symptoms (the reason you visited your doctor).

I would like to know which made you to visit doctor.
I suppose you had some upper respiratory tract symptoms like sore throat, runny nose, and perhaps low grade fever.
If you'd like more information, please describe your symptoms in detail, to help me understand your condition better.

Kind Regards!

Was constipated-hadn't had a bowel movemenet for five days so I anticipated a prescription that would help cure this problem. The drug was prescribed by a CNP associated with the Digestive Health practice here in XXXXXXX , MD. It's no wonder why the condition perisists since an antibiotic sure as the devil isn't designed to cause bowl movements.

Miralax,Metamuscil nor a few over the counter drugs did not work prior to seeking aid and Digestive Health.
Do you have any recomendations since the condition persists and an appoinmnet at Digestive Health was not available until Monday the 29th and the contipation persists that surely is compounding the condition.

Brief Answer:
Do you know the cause of your constipation?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Symptomatic relief of constipation can sometimes be found in products like Miralax (which is supposed to work in 1-3 days) or Metamucil (which has an indirect action and may help regulate intestinal function). It all has to do with the cause of constipation.

For example, a tumor in the rectum may cause obstruction and constipation. A diet poor in fibers and water may also aggravate or cause constipation.

General measures that may help with constipation are:
-physical activity (walking is enough)
-drinking enough water
-eating fiber containing food (fruits, salads, vegetables etc)
-regular defecation schedule - try to evacuate your intestine regularly and prefer to do it at a specific time (after breakfast for example). Even if you don't feel like going to the toilet, you should give it a try. The bowels like to be on schedule!

Symptomatic relief may also include suppositories (glycerin) and enemas (fleet enema). I could not suggest a specific product because I practice medicine in Europe (Greece) and I'm not familiar with FDA approved drugs - but you can ask your pharmacist about them.

Amoxicillin is definitely not a drug for constipation. Perhaps you should ask why the doctor prescribed you an antibiotic. Maybe he's found something else during the clinical encounter?

I hope things are more clear now regarding constipation!
If you'd like further information, I'll be glad to help.

Kind Regards!

The physician also prescribed Clindamycin 150mg -what is this drug utilized for.?
Instructed to take two capsules four 4 times a day

Answered by Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis (8 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Antiobiotic also

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

clindamycin is an anti-staphylococcal and anti-anaerobic antibiotic. I can't understand why this prescription was given. I'm sure your doctor has written a diagnosis next to the antibiotics. Perhaps you should check the prescription or ask him.
If you have an infection, it can be dangerous to stop your treatment.
But they surely don't help with constipation.

Kind Regards!
