Question: Hi, I am a 30 year old male, 6'2", 284 pounds. No major health issues outside of mild high blood pressure.

I was admitted to the hospital with a high fever (105 F) of undetermined cause. The fever subsided after about a week, and I have since been asymptomatic.

I received a CT scan in the hospital, which noted, among other things, a "cystic lesion involving the anterior spleen measuring 3.6 cm x 3.7 cm. The spleen is enlarged measuring 18 cm in length. A splenule noted at the helium. The adrenal glands, kidneys, pancreas, and spleen are unremarkable. The abdominal aorta is normal size and caliber. The liver demonstrated decreased attenuation compatible with hepatic steatosis."

I am very concerned about the cyst on my spleen and my spleen's size. My primary physician wants me to wait a few weeks and have my spleen scanned again with an ultrasound. I have occasional left-side pain that I did not have before I was sick, and while one of the areas of pain is in the general location of the spleen, I did vomit excessively while I was sick, and my doctor thinks I likely have pulled muscles or stressed ribs.

Should I be concerned about my spleen's size and the cyst?

Thank you, I also have a follow-up question based on your answer. If the splenic enlargement was caused by a virus, about how long would it normally take for the spleen to return to its normal size?
