What Does The Following Abdominal Ultrasound Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Nov 2016
Question: Hi-- I'm just curious at what could be a possible cause of my symptoms. I am working with a doctor for IBS and recently she requested an abdominal ultrasound because my blood sugar is border line high and my insulin production low. I am a marathon runner, follow a very low sugar/paleo diet. The ultrasound showed an enlarged liver. I've also got achy joints which wake me up in the night, am frequently constipated, and I have gained about 7 lbs despite eating very carefully and exercising 1-2 hours per day. Any thoughts as to what I should be looking at? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Kindly attached blood results/reports

Detailed Answer:
hi.
thanks for posting query at HCM.

i read your question thoroughly and found in the history section that you had blood tests to check functions of thyroid, liver. i hope lipid profile was also ordered.
weight gain despite diet control and exercise is a sign of "hypothyroid (low thyroid hormone)". however, thyroid test would confirm it.

low thyroid function; obesity and alcoholism may cause fatty liver.

therefore, blood test results would give a better picture of your condition.
kindly attach all blood results in the follow up query.

thank you

I'm not obese (137 lbs, 5'8") nor do I drink alcohol. I have gained a few lbs despite eating 1700 calories per day and running 10 miles per day.
My question had more to do with the relationship of an enlarged liver, IBS, and elevated HC1. I don't have access to downloading the blood reports, but my HC1 was 6.0, C-peptide was .76, and insulin was 2.1. AM cortisol was 26.1. All other levels were within normal range.

Just last Friday the other tests were run, so I don't have results. I will hear from my doctor in a week or so, but was anxious to learn about possibilities. Maybe you don't have enough info?

Kindly read detailed answer below.

Detailed Answer:
hi.
thanks for getting back. your follow up query is comparatively better organized and concerns are put straight.

i will try to reply in best of my capacity.

firstly; normal values differ from lab to lab.

c-peptide is in pretty much in the nornal range.this means that insulin production in the body (endogenous) is intact. though isulin value is slightly low than normal, the test maybe repeated again and insulin level maybe checked twice. ( fasting and 1hour after ingestion of glucose )solution)
hba1c normal range is 4 to 6%.
yours is 6%.
i would suggest you to have a oral glucose tolerance test.

alcoholism and obesity are common causes of fatty liver. both causes are excluded in your case. low thyroid function maybe ruled out. fatsing blood choesterol and triglyceride level in blood maybe checked .

for IBS; better to visit a gastroenterologist.
to best of my knowledge; IBS is not related to fatty liver or hba1c.

hope to answer your concerns.
i apologize that your concerns was not answered in my previous reply.further questions are welcomed.
