Question: cortical scarring in upper & middle cortex of both kidneysR K 8MM CORTICAL THICKNESS & PARENCHYMAL 19 MM THICK L K 8 MM CORTICAL THICKNESS & PARENCHYMAL 14 MM THICK R K 9.3 BY 4 CM L K 10.5 BY 4.2 CM CREATININE1.2 MG URIC ACID 5.9 MG SWELLING AROUND IN BOTH ANKLES BP 120/80 HBA1 6.4% ESR 20 HB 10.3 PUS CELLS 3-5

Thanks for your query .Based on the report of your ultrasound scannig which revealed scarring of both the kidneys suggest that there is damage or involvement of glomeruli (kidney units that filter urine ) which do not regenerate and replaced by scar tissue which can be secondary most commonly to Diabetes or chronic UTI .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Are you diabetic?

Though there is minimal scarring of both the kidneys all other parameters of renal function like creatinine level ,uric acid being normal there is no suggestive evidence of gross renal damage hence not to be worried about .

However you need to consult qualified Nephrologist for assessment and get few more blood tests like serum proteins , and total urinary excretion of proteins done to assess the renal function .

Further treatment will be decided by him based on results of these tests and final diagnosis.

not diabetic sugar pp 137mg, blood urea 23mg, sr. creatinine 0.8, sr.uric acid 4.0, total bilirubin 1.1, conj. bilirubin0.7, unconj.bilirubin 0.4, total protein 8.0, albumin 3.9, urine protein value 13.2 AS ON 22.08.16

Thanks for follow up and uploading blood and urine reports which are well within normal range and does not signify any gross renal damage .

However you need to get these investigations repeated every year to assess and be assured about any kidney disease .

Make a routine habit to drink more water so as to pass 1.5 liters of urine in 24 hours .
